Dads

Christa Riekert, Advisory Nutritionist

You might not be the one giving birth, but as a father-to-be, you’re just as important to your new baby and your partner as all the doctors, nurses and midwives involved. And just like your baby’s mother, you’ll probably have lots of questions and concerns. There are many things new dads can do to be a part of your baby’s life, even from before conception, so you won’t feel like a spare part. If you have any questions, we'd be happy to help.

Dads’ health and nutrition

It takes two to make a baby, although by this stage, we’d hope you already knew that! What is often less known is how your health can affect fertility and conception. What fathers-to-be eat can play a big part in helping you and your partner through pregnancy and those first few weeks and months with a new baby. A good diet will not only contribute to your fertility for easier conception, but you’ll have more energy as well.

Practical info and advice for dads

Nine months probably sounded like a long time till your baby arrived – until you realised all the preparation that’s needed! From attending antenatal classes and learning how you can help during the birth, to making arrangements around your rights as a working dad, there are many things you’ll need to know and practical things you’ll need to do before your new baby is born.

Emotional wellbeing and relationships

Emotional wellbeing and relationships

The prospect of becoming a father and then actually having a new baby can be an emotional rollercoaster for even the toughest men. Remember, you don’t have to be Superman. Learning to relax, taking a deep breath and dealing with all the feelings that come with being a new dad or father-to-be will help you enjoy the experience more and be a better dad.
