The benefits of a well balanced diet
Many new dads can find themselves lacking in energy. So it’s more important than ever to be aware of keeping yourself fit, so that you can keep up with your new baby's needs and support your partner by sharing the workload and care routine. A nutritious and well balanced diet is the best start for getting the energy you need and can even improve your mood, concentration and memory.
What should new dads be eating?
To make sure you’re getting the right mix of nutrients, choose healthy foods from each of the four food groups every day. These include:
- Fresh fruit and vegetables – a good variety is best, eat at least three servings of vegetables and two servings of fruit
- Breads and cereals – such as bread, pasta, grains and cereals, eat at least six servings a day (try to choose wholegrain options)
- Milk and milk products – such as milk, yoghurt and cheese, choose low or reduced fat options, eat at least two servings a day
- Lean meat, poultry, seafood, legumes, nuts and seeds
