What equipment do I need?

Christa Riekert, Advisory Nutritionist

“Introducing solids for your baby can be a challenge – an exciting, messy challenge! You can make things much easier for yourself by having the right equipment on hand at your baby's mealtimes. The information below should help you prepare for your baby's first solid food experiences.”

Equipment to help with the introduction to solid foods

You'll probably have most of what you need in the house, but there are a few things that'll come in handy:

  • First feeding spoons. These are plastic or plastic coated spoons, small and shallow enough for a little mouth and kinder on gums and teeth.
  • A colourful plastic bowl, preferably with a suction cap on the base which helps to prevent upsets!
  • Bibs and clean cloths
  • A food blender/processor is invaluable for mixing baby food
  • Bendy ice-trays for storing baby portions
  • A plastic tablecloth/mat
