Strawberry Birthmark - Compound heamangioma

My little girl has the beginnings of a compound heamangioma - its like the strawberry birthmark on the surface but also has a lump underneath the skin. So it has the characteristics of the colour on the surface but also of a deep heamangioma which is a large lump under the skin. Im worried because it sounds like this type get quite large. Has anyone had experience with this, did it go away or what treatment did you use? Also can anyone recommend a specialist in Chch that I can see?

My 3 year old has this. It appeared on her left shoulder blade when she was one month old, and it got bigger and bigger as she approached 6-8 months. It was scary looking,it was mostly under the skin, creating a M***IVE bruise-colored lump under her skin but there were also bits of it that were above the skin that were bright red. My pediatrician initially told me that it would go away by the time she reached 1 year but as it got bigger the pediatrician referred me to a pediatric dermatologist. He checked it out and said it was totally benign and that I should definitely not treat it. However, since it was so big,it would probably not go away until my daughter was 5-6 years old. My daughter is almost 3 years old now, and it's still there but it is definitely shrinking. There are almost no bright red bits above the skin and it is a lot flatter than before. To make yourself feel better, see a specialist but DO NOT treat the hemangioma unless you have too. The dermatologist I saw said the only reason to treat it was if it was close to the eye because it could interfer with eye development. Other than that, there's no risk. Just make sure your daughter doesn't get cut there because it will bleed a lot. I haven't had one since issue in 3 years. I don't even try to hide it with clothing.

my two year old daughter had two strawberry birth marks at birth one on her lower back and the other on the back of her neck, they have both gone.

my niece had this when she was a baby, as she was growing so was the strawberry mark, she had to have an operation to get it removed, i know she was under one year when she had the operation done, it was real big, when she was born it was small maybe a 5c piece, then as she got older it grew, i know it got pretty big, just go to your gp and get them to send you to a specialist.
