Sometimes the excitement for a child starting preschool can be to much...........Our son Dylan was one of these children, about 2 weeks before he was due to start preschool we awoke to find the house silent which was not an ordinary thing, upon hoping out of bed we found both our son and daughter were missing. Panic set in as we ran around the house searching madly in the hope that they were hiding, only to notice in our searching that their push bikes were also missing. In the past we had learnt that our son Dylan was a bit of a wanderer. On 3 other occasions he had gone missing. After the first time we installed dead bolts high on the door and many other contraptions to try and stop him, but the little bugger was an escape artists and an adventurer. The next step was to start ringing the family and get a search party happening. Upon ringing everyone we knew to get them out looking, my husband jumped in our car and went looking, and I hoped in with a neighbor who had kindly offered to help, she had also said she had been up since 5am gardening out in her front yard and had not seen them. Upon hearing this my heart began to race even faster, as from past experiences I knew just how far and how fast this little boy could travel in a short amount of time, and he had been gone for over 2 hours by now. What was even worse is that in the town we live in there is a lot of idiot drivers which made me panic even more. After driving around for about 10 minutes we spotted some kids in a skate park and stopped and asked if they had seen them, their reply was yes a little boy with a back pack on, on his pushie and his little sister in only a nappy on her push bike, they pointed us in the direction they went and off we drove. After driving around for about another 10 minutes we found them, an old couple had pulled them up and they were sitting in their front yard having a cuppa with them. The scary thing was they were on the main drag of our home town, not the safest place for 2 little kids on bikes. My heart began to race when I saw them, tears rolling down my cheeks, I wanted to hug them but at the same time they were in big trouble. We thanked the old couple and took them home....Upon having a stern talk to our son, we found out the reason for his adventure, he had decided he was going to preschool today and packed up his bag with some food and off they went. Now how’s that for keen.
