I’m feeling nervous about the birth

Christa Riekert, Advisory Nutritionist

It’s natural to feel nervous about giving birth, especially if it’s your first baby. The truth is, it is painful for most women but nature has designed the birthing process brilliantly. It helps to see pain as a messenger rather than something to avoid. This section may help you to overcome some of your nerves but if you still need to talk things over or have any questions, please contact our team at Kariclub.

How to build your confidence up

Right now you probably have a million and one questions about the stages of labour and what actually happens during childbirth. Very often, it’s this not knowing that causes so much stress and trepidation. But you probably know more than you think. And remember, your body is designed to give birth so keep in mind that nature is on your side and you’ll soon be meeting your beautiful new baby!

Go through your birth plan again, and review what you will take with you to the birth. Nothing will give you more confidence than simply being prepared. You may find our section on the three stages of labour useful too.

Most importantly, don’t bottle up your feelings! Talk to your partner or health care professional about your concerns as it really can help to express these feelings.
