I just want someone to pay attention to me!
When you get pregnant, it’s normal for everyone and everything to focus on your bump and the growing baby inside you, which is lovely most of the time. But in later stages of pregnancy, you may find yourself feeling a bit invisible and longing to be appreciated as an individual.
As your baby gets bigger, getting a good night's sleep can be a nightmare! And being tired just makes you feel even more grouchy and sorry for yourself. So give yourself a break, indulge in some me-time and ask friends and loved ones to help out around the house, while you put your feet up!
If you are still working and have an understanding employer you may be able to talk to them about flexible working hours or have time off during your work day for things like appointments with your health care professional. This can help ease any pressure you may have with trying to fit everything in on weekends and evenings.
Take care of yourself
If you do feel a bit overlooked, mention it to your partner and close friends and family, to help them understand how you’re feeling. Then try and take some time out to treat yourself to things that make you feel good, for instance:
- Go to the cinema (but sit close to the aisle in case you need a quick toilet break!)
- Get your partner to cook your favourite meal at home and enjoy a romantic candle-lit dinner together
- Exercising gently releases feel-good chemicals in your body and will actually help you feel good and sleep better at night too (as long as you stop a good four hours before bedtime). Regular exercise can also build up your stamina, helping you get through labour later on. It is important to avoid high impact exercise however; gentle exercise is key
- There’s nothing like a self-indulgent pampering session! Whether it’s going for a manicure, pedicure, a new haircut, or a relaxing massage with pregnancy-safe oils such as lavender, just take some time out and treat yourself
